Treatment Approach
The Center for Community Independence utilizes a highly functional and "real-world" treatment approach within a community setting. Establishing a therapeutic rapport and responding to the uniqueness of each client is an integral program component. It is our belief that everything our clients do can be therapeutic if we take that opportunity to teach.
All services at the Center for Community Independence are delivered on an individual and client-specific basis. We believe in exclusive one-to-one therapies rather than traditional group therapies. Our focus is on each individual's specific needs. Utilizing one-to-one staffing allows each individual to progress at their own pace without the distractions inherent in group situations. Upon initial assessment, an Individual Plan of Care is developed. After admission, that Plan is regularly adjusted with updates to goals and timelines, keeping pace with an individual's changing needs.
We believe an individual is best served by starting the rehabilitation process in the community as soon as possible. Too often, individuals sustaining brain injuries follow a far too lengthy path through a system of rehabilitation facilities and are eventually discharged home without the tools necessary to live an independent life. For most brain injured individuals, success "in program" seldom translates to success in the community. Utilizing a functional approach to rehabilitation, our clients work with staff and therapists in the community from the date of admission. All services are delivered utilizing real-life situations to facilitate the learning process. Our clients experience and subsequently their learning is "real," and so their outcomes are effective, carry over and are long-lasting.
